Arturia Software update
« on: June 26, 2013, 05:58:36 pm »
Hi

Not more updates to install, I don't generally check the Arturia site for updates but when I do, There's always updates.
Is there anyway that within the product you could have a menu item which says 'Check for updates' ? At that point you get the choice whether to just download the software, or have the updater install the required updates.

I have the V collection, Spark, Analog Lab and Factory and Brass 2. Apart from checking if I have the latest and greatest I have to install each program separately which is a pain.

Would you consider some kind of software updater?

Thanks,
Stuart

Putting the date that it was posted too.

I like how Line 6 has this set up with their Monkey updater.

Your system runs a check, determines if you have the most recent update.

In the meantime, if you are a Firefox user (but I believe there's something similar for other browsers, too), there's an extension called "update scanner": you just enter a web address, set a change threshold and decide how often you want to check for changes, then you can simply forget about it, untill you receive a notification for a page update (and you can also highlight the differences with the previous version).

By the way, an rss for the updates page would be enough for me (I use my email client for rss on my laptop, I download everything from it and then move things to my studio pc... even if it has got internet connection too, but I avoid using it), but I recognize an update check function inside the software is something a lot of people would use.

Yeah, although that's a bit hit and miss.

I think another Arturia application installed on your system which scans the installed applications and their version. Updates the required applications. Quick, simple and a one stop update method similar to Adobe updater. I haven't seen the Line 6 app but essentially a single app is installed on your system and it alerts you to updates. It then scans your machine, it is the best way to go about an updater. If you have a menu item in each application it will just get confusing and take too long, especially as there are so many different types of bundles of Arturia avaliable.

Ok,

So a background app checking all installed product and requesting our server if there is any update would be the best.
Thank you for giving your opinions and ideas.

That does sound like a pretty good idea Stuart.

If Arturia does this, please make sure the application itself offers options to turn on/off its background running process and perhaps a setting on how frequently it checks for updates.

Yeah, thanks

I uploaded a picture I mocked up but I can't see it. Basically the exact same as software update for mac osx with the option to turn off the background process as well as a frequency check, or if required, a manual update.

Thanks, Stuart

I think NIs service center is the best Ive used...i have komplete ultimate and maschine, thats a huge array of instruments and libraries, and the service center makes it all easily managable.

Hi

It also has registration included.
Sadly with eLicenser we can not do that.

But I agree it is a good tool.

With dongles being the autoriser of the software, updates and license issue should not really a metter of concern.
The software update should be aware of the ceiling allowed to update to.

For example, Mac OSX won't just update to the lastest software, it will take you to the highest avaliable for your license.

I mean we can not with eLicenser do the registration all integrated in the software center like NI does.
