In the meantime, if you are a Firefox user (but I believe there's something similar for other browsers, too), there's an extension called "update scanner": you just enter a web address, set a change threshold and decide how often you want to check for changes, then you can simply forget about it, untill you receive a notification for a page update (and you can also highlight the differences with the previous version).
By the way, an rss for the updates page would be enough for me (I use my email client for rss on my laptop, I download everything from it and then move things to my studio pc... even if it has got internet connection too, but I avoid using it), but I recognize an update check function inside the software is something a lot of people would use.
