Linux AFCC support ?
« on: December 01, 2017, 08:54:47 pm »
Hey !

I was wondering about the state of AFCC for Linux right now. Firmware 1.1 is out now but I haven't seen anything about software support.
I want to mention that AFCC for Linux is clearly mentioned  in this document : http://downloads.arturia.com/products/afcc/manual/afcc_Manual_1_0_EN.pdf

Quote
The AFCC runs on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux systems.

I mean I was (and many foxes out there) really happy to finally see an interface officially supported under Linux, so is it just a commercial strategy ? Mentioning a niche to get more customers ?

Anyway Audiofuse under Linux with full support for reamping and all other features of this wonderful interface would be really nice.

Have a good day !

Hi,

No, the AFCC is not compatible with Linux systems.  This is a mistake and I will make it corrected quickly. Very sorry about this confusion.

Matthieu

Is there any chance we will get anything under Linux? Even command line utilities for example to set/get ADAT levels and other things that can't be done from the device. Or even publish an API so that someone could create some utilities?

+1 to an API, a Linux version, a web version, etc...

I got one of these because it advertised linux support.

???

Wait, are you seriously saying that the long promised Linux support for AudioFuse Control Center "was a mistake"?

It's not just in product descriptions and manuals, your own engineers have been promising this ever since AudioFuse was announced way back when.

Here is just one example: https://youtu.be/cdZTX4bHkEc?t=1523

A lot of people were really counting on this, and have been (and still are) patiently waiting.

Backtracking on your promises like this is low. I am extremely disappointed.

I've slowly started reverse-engineering how AFCC works and implementing a CLI version that works on Linux.

You can find it at https://github.com/rhofour/audiofuse-cli. Right now all it can do is change the Digital I/O modes as that was most important to me. I'll slowly continue to develop it as I get time and as I find myself wanting to access more features of the AudioFuse. If there are any particular features you'd like please file a Feature Request on Github and I'll take a look.

Arturia Employees: It'd be a huge help if you released some kind of documentation on how the AFCC actually communicates with the AudioFuse.

So far it handles all the things I would most want AFCC so development will be a bit slow if people don't file feature requests on Github. I certainly welcome contributions though.

Right now it doesn't correctly hand the AF back to the kernel after talking to it which has me a bit stumped. I could have it restart after every change which works, but it risks pops in your speakers even when you wouldn't need to restart on Windows. If someone knows more about how libusb and the kernel talk to each other I could probably use some help there.

Otherwise, just tell me what you want it to do and I'll keep improving it.

The release of AudioFuse Studio and AudioFuse 8Pre seems to be suggesting that instead of the original AudioFuse being a one-shot Arturia's audio interface product line is here to stay.

Here's hoping for Arturia to save face and reconsider their original commitment to bringing AudioFuse Control Center to Linux.

There is nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Best regards,
JS
