Hello Everyone !

Finally I received my copy of storm 3 today, and 5 minutes ago
I installed it to my test computer system.

And Boy, that gm midi synth thing really rocks !!
Good work, Arturia! That's really sort of a benefit
to the whole Storm ting !!  

As I said, only the first 5 minutes gone since first
try on version 3, but so far, I am very surprised
of that clear gm sound !!

Ok then, gotta keep on testing....

yep, you're right, this GM module is quite amazing, it sounds far better than a Roland virtual sound canvas ! Besides, its output can be sent in any effect chain, pretty cool

But I got a question to everyone,
what about VST ?

Is it possible that now you can run storm 3
only in Rewire Mode but not in VSTi Mode
anymore ?

I was foolin around with that thing but
didn't find the correct answer in manual.. ?!

Got some ideas, anyone ?
(if i didn't look in the right
 section of the manual, I'm sorry
 for stupid question...    )

Hi Basskilla,

You got the point, no more VSTi mode, only rewire. I guess that the Arturians have dropped down this feature cause it was a real CPU killer. In some way, the new easy and smart sequencer plus the rewire mode have made it useless, at least for me  
Well, to be honest, I consider Storm v3 to be a great standalone app, so no need of any other prog  :oops:  :wink:

but in my case I really need
the VSTi feature..

For that I can use my real synthesizers
together with the Storm software, I need
to have another sequencer, Cubase VST
in my case.

I know that you can use storm as a master unit
in midi chain, but as long as you cannot program
the real synthies via storm, it doesn't really fit
to my needs. (or does it already can do so??)

I thought arturia made a big step forward
to professional level, but how can they decide
to cancel VSTi support ?

As I think ( please correct me if I'm wrong )
you cannot play a storm synthesizer using rewire
the way it worked with VST in last version ?!!

Even if it was something like a "CPU Killer" feature,
it still worked fine with one of my machines:
AMD TB 1.4 Ghz with 512 MB  RAM ...no problems so far..

Yes I can understand your disappointment. As far as I'm concerned, I've never used Storm as a vsti due to this problem of resources. Though, I'm not sure about it (I must test it) but I think you can use Storm as a rewire client the way you could when a vsti, I mean you can play each midi channel through Cubase.
On the other hand, it would be great if Storm could play any external gear through midi. Sure, Storm has grown up lately but some cool features are awaited here ... What about the export of midi files, could be interesting too  :wink:

Well, I consulted the manual again and it saiz somthing
like:
" Storm sequencer can receive midi events from other sequencers
   in some cases "  but there's no information, how this should work
and what cases they're talking about.

If I'm right, "midi events" are not only start/stop/bpm infos
but also each note that is played. Right ? ( ..not sure in that case ..)

But if, it could work like you said..

HAS ANYONE ALREADY TRIED REWIRE MODE TO PLAY NOTES
FROM AN EXTERNAL SEQUENCER AS CUBASE  ?

If Storm could manage external equipment as synthies and
drum machines, it really could substitute other tools someday.

Hi there!

I also sent a message concerning rewire to the support team
and I just got the answer:
( really, really fast, maximum respect to support team! )   :!:

You CAN use rewire as a full replacement of VSTi, but only
if you use Cubase SX (or similar) because of Rewire 2.0 support.

In earlier versions ( like mine, VST 5.1 ) there is only rewire 1.0
support which means:

 - synchronize cubase and storm : yes  
 - play notes in storm via cubase : no    

For me that's really sad because I don't want to spend
so much money in a newer Cubase version for storm support.

But however, "good thing to know"...

By the way, I was told another workaround for this as we also
already mentioned, just to use midi import funktion to get a
track from cubase to storm. Better than nothing, right ?

Hi Sven, cool, at least two here  :wink:

Storm can receive note messages from any hardware sequencer thru its Midi in. I guess it can also be done using a software sequencer linked to Storm via the midi yoke or Hubi loop back devices.
Yes, you need a rewire 2 compatible host for a Vsti-like use of Storm, really bad in your case cause I think the SX2 from cubase VST 5 upgrade must be rather expensive   Anyhow, there are other solutions but I agree it's less handy.
