No envelopes with CV (Minibrute+BSP)!!!
« on: September 23, 2019, 01:36:52 pm »
I'm not very familiar with CV, so I'm unsure of what is expected behaviour when it comes to controlling the Minibrute. I'm trying to control the 'Brute with my Beat Step Pro by patching the Gate Out and Pitch Out on sequencer 1 of the BSP to the Gate In and Pitch (to VCO) on the Brute respectively. The 'Brute is responding almost according to how I'd expect; it plays a given note for a given duration set by the gate length and pitch on the sequencer, but all this happens seemingly without ever interacting with any of the envelopes on the Brute. This seems particularly limiting. From what I can tell by looking at videos of people controlling the brute with CV, this should not be the case. Upon searching, this thread seems to confirm my belief:

Anyone have any idea what's going on or what I'm missing? Anything I should check or look out for? Is my MiniBrute dysfunctional or am I? I've posted a video of the problem in question below:

What do you mean by "interacting with the envelopes"?  Do you mean the envelopes are not modified by the CV connections you've made, or that the envelopes are not being triggered at all when you are using the Gate input?

The BSP has pitch, gate and velocity CV out on the two note Seqs, of which you have correctly connected the pitch and gate to the same on the CV inputs on your Mini, leaving you only with Velocity to connect.  You can connect the Velocity Out on the BSP to either the VCA or the VCF input on the Mini and that will control the initial levels of each, acting like a velocity mod on the amp or filter levels.
Currently running https://www.modulargrid.net/e/racks/view/1311723 / www.modulargrid.net, sequencing with KSP and recording with a Zoom (no DAW involved, for better or worse ;) )
