Midi converters and ground noise when powering off
« on: May 17, 2019, 12:58:25 pm »
I am having problems with my microfreak, and I fear my unit could be faulty. Yesterday, playing with my Digitakt I noticed some problems with the jack-midi converters (they were alternatively working, not working, sending spurious messages). I then tried to replace them with the beatstep pro cables, and - to my surprise - they were working correctly. I tried different configurations, and I came up with this scheme:

Microfreak cables:

1)
digitakt midi out > microfreak midi in: OK
microfreak midi out > digitakt midi in: Not working

2)
digitakt midi out> microfreak midi in: OK
microfreak midi out > digitakt midi in: Not working

Beatstep pro cables:

1)
digitakt midi out> microfreak midi in: OK
microfreak midi out > digitakt midi in: OK

2)
digitakt midi out> microfreak midi in: OK
microfreak midi out > digitakt midi in: OK

I tried to power the Microfreak both with the included PSU and with a USB powerbank. I tried the Microfreak cables with beatstep pro and it seemed to work just fine. I tried with and without a Kenton Kodi thru.

I then noticed another strange behavior. When powering Microfreak off, I can hear a loud static noise: https://youtu.be/ASlhuit8iek  Please note I have tried with several cables and instruments and the Microfreak appears to be the only one producing this outcome.

Hello, i have the same "power-off issue"!
I also tried several types of cables to connect the MF to my USB interface,
but always the same loud static noise...
I never had this problem with other machines.
Is my unit faulty?!

The problem is probably due to a midi out damaged port. Is has been sent to the Italian official repairer  :'(
