Drum Rack use pads to focus on sound to edit
« on: November 20, 2018, 01:55:17 am »
Hi all.

I have had to put the DB impact on hold for a while so I am trying to improve my Ableton drum rack setup.

My setup is generally working well ie: BSP Drum mode triggers the sounds & Control mode edits the drum rack sound parameters.

My problem is I have to use the mouse to highlight the sound to edit.
I am not interested in using BSP to launch ableton clips or control levels, I have other controllers for that. I purely want to use & maybe even lock the BSP to drum rack functions so that it feels as much like a hardware drum machine as possible.

In control mode with CC selected I would like to use the pads to select the drum sound within the drum rack to edit. I have tried to change the pads mappings in the editor but I cant get it to work.
I feel like I am missing something silly here.
Has anyone done this???

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Craig

Having spent pretty much the last 24 hours looking into my Beatstep Pro Drum Rack sampler setup I have found I can actually use the computer keyboard arrow keys to highlite the drum rack cell that I want to edit the sound of. Not ideal but not the end of the world.

I have also discovered that according to lives help view many other controllers can be used to select drum rack cells so it is actually possible. I appreciate that BSP is not just a DAW controller which is why I bought it and exactly how I use it however controller mode could be way more useful.

I initially started using live lite as a temporary solution for drums and sampling until I got the cash together to buy more hardware however now I am quite enjoying my hybrid setup & may may decide to ditch the hardware sampler (for a while at least) in favour of another characterful synth and Drum Brute impact... Lives basic simpler is a way more powerful sampler than pretty much any hardware ever.

I guess what I am trying to say is.... Arturia can you please make a proper more focused and well thought out script for the wonderful Beatstep Pro. Ditch the clip launching and all that general nonsense as I reckon most people have other controllers for that stuff. I reckon just make it work really really well with Drum Racks and sampling.

PS, I'm head over heels in love with the BSP, I'm most likely going to need another one as my hardware collection grows.
