Beatstep Pro Volca Keys Sync Delay
« on: September 05, 2018, 07:04:57 pm »
Hey there,

I've been having some problems with syncing (clock) my BSP with my Volca Keys. I connected my BSP via clock out to the sync in of my Volca Keys. So far so good. It does sync, the Volca takes over the tempo when I change it on the BSP etc. The problem is that I experience a very annoying sync delay.

I know I normally can fix this using the midi clock settings in Ableton but it won't help anything.

Simply said: both BSP and Volca are driving on the same highway with the same speed but they don't drive exactly next to eachother ;)

Anyone tips?

Hi Larsmus88,
I do not understand your configuration. You speak about BSP and Volca, then you speak about Ableton. Could you clarify please?

You need to push the Volca play button in sync for it to be synced to BSP.

Regards,
Y.

Okay we can leave out Ableton. The problem is that there is a sync delay between de volca keys and the BSP. They respond to each other but there is a sync delay. As BSP is linked to Ableton I thought the delay had to do with the midi out settings in Ableton. Do you understand what I mean?

I press the play button on the Volca Keys (which does not make him start). After that I push the play button on the BSP which makes both devices start.

Did you set the clock to 2ppq in the MCC?

I think it is audio latency related to your sound card settings in Ableton Live.

Do you have an idea on what to do on this?

You have to lower the sample size of your ASIO driver (assuming you are using a decent sound card with ASIO drivers, because you should). You can do this in the Preferences menu (Options ->Preferences -> Audio). You need to reach less than 10ms latency in order to not notice anymore the delay caused by your sound card. If you lessen to much (depending on your computer and your sound card), you may experience audio cracks.
