Moogerfooger FreqBox and MatrixBrute - Dream Team
« on: February 09, 2018, 08:49:41 pm »
Just a little advice:

If you happen to find a FreqBox somewhere, its an amazing combo partner for the brute.

A Moog OSC,  HardSync and extra FM makes this thing go wild. And its all controllable via CV.

Does anyone here happen to have tried it?
It really is a wonderful extension.

Even if you use it just for the drive...

There is just one drawback- the FreqBox filters out some brilliance. I wonder if its just mine, or if they all do it.

I too have used the FrebBox with the brute, it seems a perfect companion.  I take the OSC OUT from the freqbox and feed into the Ext IN on the brute to have 4 oscillators going and then from there its just madness...madness, I tell you.

Awesome!

Is your FreqBox acting as a low pass filter as well, reducing some of the high frequencies in the input signal? I got a used one and I am wondering, if its a malfunction.

I don't use them in a way that would display that kind of behaviour. I tend to plug them all into each other and the end result is stuff like this:

and this:

etc :) :) :)

I could conduct some tests if you want to specify settings and send you recordings etc, I have 3 MF107s to test with here. But answering your question without knowing your settings (repeatable steps) is basically impossible. There are too many variables here.

Haha, nah it should be mandatory!

I can promise you that I’ve had nothing but immense fun deep diving into musical experimentation with all this stuff.

Hey Joeman,

thanks for the motivation to help me.

Actually, when you just use the FreqBox as the only device in the MatrixBrutes insert channel, and you switch it between bypass and on, pushing the metal stomp button, there is quite the audible difference between the bypassed signal and the signal going through the FreqBox. Even when the Freq's Mix is fully turned to just the input signal, counterclockwise. There is just some high frequency context missing.

And since you can compare the sound so easily (by pressing the metal stomp knob), it is very clearly audible.

If you wanna give that a try, I would be thankful indeed!

Cheers!

Yes definitely high frequency cut when used like this. All three MF107 tested same result.
