Ribbon controller/Automation
« on: August 27, 2017, 12:06:04 am »
I'm trying to control the CS-80 ribbon via midi, I really can't find a way to automate the ribbon movements from Logic Pro X.
I'm using my prophet 6 to trigger most midi and the pitch wheel is not doing it. Iwas wondering if a Doepfer R2M Ribbon Controller would do the trick?

Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks

What do you mean by "the pitch wheel is not doing it"? What excactly is'nt it doing?
Are you aware that you can enable and disable the Ribbon for pitchbend using the little grey button just right to the ribbon? The little black knob next to this grey button set the ribbons coarse.

Pitch Bend is availble as a automation parameter. This parameter is the ribbon.
I would say thou Arturia, that this automation parameter in CS-80 should be named Ribbon, as it's called ribbon even in the modulation matrix.

I hope this helps. But if this is'nt it, then i think you need to explain more about what you wan't to do, that you can't. Also about What do you exspect a hardware ribbon controller can do better - including regarding automation in your DAW?

As you can't use MIDI learn for the ribbon becasuse it's assigned as a pitchbend that AFAIK has no MIDI CC, then i actually don't know if you can use a hardware ribbon controller unless it work as a pitchbend. Perhaps Arturia can tell?
And there can be different options in different DAWs to make it possible to control the ribbon using MIDI CC controls by using CS-80s pitchbend automation parameter. In my DAW i have options to do this.

Slightly off topic - I remember the very first synthesizer that I ever owned. A MicroMoog with a ribbon controller that no only let you do pitch bend but also hammer-on style instant pitch changes. Ribbon controllers are cool. I never had an instrument with a pitch wheel until quite late in my career with a DX7. Roland had a horizontal paddle, my Chroma had spring loaded levers if I recall.
