Keystep sync out cable and DIN sync (sync24)
« on: August 17, 2016, 02:12:08 am »
Hi there!
I´ve been trying to explore the sync24 option. Having Keystep in midi slave mode the manual says it will simultaneusly output the sync mode set in the midi control center (at the sync out jack), making the Keystep act as a sync converter.  Since there is no sync output adapter provided as with the Beatstep Pro, the only way to proceed is to buy an adapter or make one at home. The sync24 DIN is a clock signal at 24ppq and a start/stop signal, using 3 pins on the 5 pin DIN plug. After some testing I can only detect the clock signal. When i use a 3,5mm stereo plug at the sync out jack there is no start/stop signal. Keystep details on the Arturia web page clerly states:
"Clock input and output can work with standard square wave clocks. Using our DIN adaptor cable, you can set the KeyStep to send or receive DIN sync with stop/start messages"

Has anybody else experimented with this? I might have missed out on something but is there a working DIN Sync signal at the sync out jack?  ???

Cheers!

Clock message is send on the ring of your TRS stereo jack.
In order to have start and stop message you must enable :
Sync Clock Start : On Gate Start

Have a look at this wonderful FAQ article :

I'm trying to do the same thing with an MC-202 but have had no luck. Tried my 606 and same deal. Would be amazing if I could actually get the Keystep to be the DinSync master clock.

hi

does this only works when the keystep is in midi slave modus  ??
or also when the dip switches set to internal.
(tried both)

i want to sync my tr 606
and bought  some adapters (3,5 to midi from malekkoheavyindustries)

but also when set in MCC to either clock or on gate (tried both)
it doesnt work .. the tr 606 wont start ??

has anyone tried 24 ppq ?

hi,

i just bought one of the arturia beatstep clock adapter cables,
and now it works like it should..
in MCC "on gate start" and "24 ppq",
tr 606 perfect in sync.

at least it were the malekko adpaters that didnt work out for the keystep (sync)

but why are every company make different cables with different groundings /pin selection
nowadays... ???

it s just a mess for the consumer to figure out what standard /cables the companies use.

The pin-outs on MIDI and Sync24 are different.  I'm guessing this is so you can't accidentally send MIDI into a Sync24 input or vice-versa when using DIN5 cables.  So what this also means is you can't just use a MIDI DIN to 1/8" adaptor with a Sync24 1/8" socket, which would be the problem you would have been having with using the Malekko MIDI adaptors.
Currently running https://www.modulargrid.net/e/racks/view/1311723 / www.modulargrid.net, sequencing with KSP and recording with a Zoom (no DAW involved, for better or worse ;) )

yap

i know that DIN sync uses a another pin selction then midi
(they told me in  the store these adaptes will work for Sync)
but what i meant was the different trs /pins in the adapters
and things like MIDI A and MIDI B for different companies...

still a bit confusing in 2019  :)
