Building a Matrix-12V hardware control panel

Hi,

How much would Matrix lovers pay to get a hardware box that looks and feels like the plug-in... ? Real knobs, real buttons, real lights, real green displays.

If every 12V knob/button is MIDI assignable, then this should be technically possible.

Maybe Arturia would object to a third-party copying their UI design though.. can any Arturia moderator comment on this point? Would Arturia sue, or would it give such a project a green light ?

Building such a thing doesn't seem hugely difficult, in this age of Raspberries and Arduinos. All inputs (knobs/buttons) would be sent to the program via MIDI.. and all outputs (lights and displays) would have to be scraped off the PC/Mac screen and fed into the hardware for mirroring. You'd still need to use a MIDI keyboard to play any sounds..

Probably a labour of love for somebody but IMO not really something that could be mass produced. Walking around google you can fine similar projects, in fact a few arturia users have done similar things with mini brute

I've played with the midibox64 a few years ago. Made a prophet 5 controller but lost interest when this was easier to make with an app on the ipad.

Exactly Shop bought controllers can be labelled up and made to work with ease, either that or iPad apps and things like the lemur.

@OneLittleFonzie: while iPad apps look great, I personally can't live with flat glass as an alternative for a button, knob or slider. I love the tactile aspect of real hardware.. YMMV.

Absolutely, iPads apps etc being great and all but you can't beat that tactile experience
