can you sequence filter cutoff for plugin synths?
« on: June 24, 2014, 03:52:36 pm »
Is it possible to have the sequence playing a plugin, AND sequence the filter cutoff for that same synth?

If so, how is this done?

Thanks

Search/read the Ableton manual... (I don't know if Ableton has that functionality, I use Cubase and FL Studio)
or
Try this:
http://www.thepiz.org/plugins/?p=pizmidi
midiNotesToCC
Windows VST: http://www.thepiz.org/pizmidi/pizmidi.zip
Windows x64 VST: http://www.thepiz.org/pizmidi/pizmidi_x64.zip
Mac OS X VST: http://www.thepiz.org/pizmidi/pizmidi.dmg

The sequencer sends Midi notes (or CV/Gate), nothing else - so why would it be in the Beatstep Manual how anyone would convert these notes once they have left the Beatstep?

Maybe Ableton can't by itself? (without an external aid, like pizzmidi)
Also, there's so many different plugins, platforms, and DAWs - it would require a lot of tutorials. And that's for a purpose that not everybody needs.

it just seems crazy to make a sequencer that can't sequence notes AND filter cutoff at the same time

Yeah, and crazy that it doesn't contain a polyphonic analogue synth either.
Beatstep is what it is, you bought what was advertised. Don't want to try my Pizzmidi advise? Then maybe you're just trolling...  ::)

i will have a look at pizza midi.

but its almost unheard of to have a sequencer that can't sequence synth parameters and note date on the same synth.

Unheard of? Name 1 hardware step sequencer that has all the Beatstep features + modulation sequencing (the thing you want), for the same price or less?

I can do it on my SE Boomstar, without any software at all.
- Midi output for notes
- CV output to CV filter input on the Boomstar

Yes, with the pizzmidi plugin.
Or just any synth plugin that has note/keyboard follow as a modulation source in its modulation matrix.
