Another DAW issue...this time Reason 7.1
« on: May 12, 2014, 04:01:30 am »
I'm having an issue with External Sync (using BeatStep) as a slave to Reason 7.1's MIDI clock.

If I start playback at 1.0.0.0, the BeatStep will play from Step 1 in (rough) synchronization. No problem.

If I start playback ANYWHERE else, the BeatStep will start from the step it was on when I stopped playback.

This is, of course, REALLY frustrating and virtually unusable.

Reason has 3 additional options for MIDI clock which don't seem to effect this behavior.

  • Send MIDI Clock While Sequencer is stopped does exactly what it seems
  • Send song position pointer again does what it sounds like, but I don't think the BeatStep supports SPP
  • Send stop/continue while repositioning does more SPP stuff

So, has anyone gotten Reason and the BeatStep working in a way that makes sense? Let me know.

I thought I read somewhere that Beatstep supports song position ... so it seems it doesn't (?)

I have the same issue with SparkLE ... very frustrating.

A workaround for SparkLE is to trigger patterns by giving each pattern a key number ... perhaps you can do the same thing with Beatstep?

Hi Erik could you please explain your workaround for SparkLE. I have Spark and reason working via loopmidi but I have the same problem with midi sync.

Any help would be great.

Cheers
