Midi controller to Mg Modularīs analogue sequencer...
« on: August 21, 2007, 09:14:59 pm »
Hi there,

first of all, let me introduce myself. this is first post. im ultrasonyk,
living in the netherlands. iīve been producing back in days when
the old analogue instruments were the only real way to make good
electronic music. i stopped producing for a few years and since a few
month the fever came back. unfortunately a lot in the hi-tech and music
branch has changed and i seem to need to find my way in the software world. still trying to get used to it.....

letīs get to my question

this may be a little bit offtopic since it doesnīt affect the Mg modular
application itself, but iīll give it a shot. asking this on a "normal" musician
forum would result in users thinking i am nuts :) maybe i am anyway....

hereīs the deal.

i am using following hardware+software for this test
- Midi controller Behringer bcr2000 connected via USB to a PC
- Ableton live
- Mg Modular V as a VST plugin in ableton

ok, what i wanna do is:
control the analogue sequencer in Mg modular V with my behringer
controller but run Mg modular as vst in ableton!

i only got it working without ableton, means run Mg modular V as
universal binary (standalone mode) and have all CC events assigned
on my behringer bcr2000. this way it works, because the controller
is beeing recognized as midi input in Mg modular V and it simply
receives all CC messages.

running the app in ableton as vst disables the menubar of the Mg
vst and ofcourse - the primary controller is not beeing recognized since
ableton is using it already.

could somebody help me out with some tricks how to get a workaround
for this purpose. and if it is really impossible, are there any good vst
analogue seqīs which would be able to RECEIVE CC data and send them
to other vstīs ?

Thanks in advance and sorry again for the OT question

Well, does nobody have an idea how to get this fixed? i'm pretty new
to Arturia software but this feature is really essential for my purposes!

Perhaps no-one here uses Ableton and the Behringer device you mentioned. I'm sure one of us would help if we could.

It might be worth trying an Ableton forum, and maybe a Behringer one.

I can't imagine why anyone in a `normal' forum would question what you're doing. It seems reasonable enough. I'm not sure what a normal forum is, or why this one isn't normal, BTW. :D

Anyway, I hope you find a solution from someone using the same setup. If you do, it might be nice if you post it here in case anyone else has the same question in the future.

Well with a 'normal' forum i actually meant a college-boy-music forum or
similar :)

well i think my question is not specially related to the behringer or
ableton, but to a vst host and a midi controller with rotary knobs,
running mmv as vst. this disables the menu in mmv which makes
it impossible to set midi settings. i can assign some CC's in ableton
using it's virtual midi assignment for the mmv, which are filters,
lfo's, effects and such. But nothing for the step sequencer of the mmv.

with other words - how can i assign the CC values for the analogue
sequencer of mmv when the mmv acts as vst plugin and the vst
host doesn't provide this option.
