Lowest C not being 0 V cv pitch out, annoying?
« on: February 15, 2014, 12:00:25 pm »
Anyone else find this annoying?

The lowest C is outputting 1V as pitch cv. I would think it should be 0V so it is compatible with "normal" eurorack gear. My Doepfer DarkEnergy is way to high (octave high)

Anyone have an idea, why it is better to have the lowest C being 1V instead of 0V?

Still, loving this machine :)

Yeah, it's kinda annoying, i had to tune my Telemark semi-modular's oscillators an octave lower manually, to have it in range...
But it's least of my concerns as the sequencer has so many sync issues.

Hi,

I have the same problem. Apparently the Microbrute only puts out CV0 on the lowest key when the pitch wheel is turned all the way down. I'm driving a Dark Energy II with the Microbrute and when connecting via MIDI everything works perfect. When connecting with CV, the DE is one octave higher.
Some people in other threads here have said that this is no big problem but it effectively takes away the lowest octave the DE is capably of, which is exactly what I use it most for.
Is there any way to fix this without getting an attenuator module?

Any help very much appreciated!

you should be able to output 0V at octave -3 setting, with lowest key on keybed

WOW!!!!   I've not noticed the -3 LOL!!!

This changes everything :)

Ok, so now I've just played the Microbrute with the -3 octave. So far so good.
Now for my next request, to be able to offset the internal one octave up, so the internal oscillator is one octave higher than the CV out. I would like this, because the micro brute is incredably low and I can't use the sub when it is this low.
I can ofcourse not use the sub when the oscilator is this low anyway, but if it is an easy mod (in the firmware maybe) then why not :)

cheers.

If you feel like taking matters into your own hands, you could make a little summing amplifier to add a 1V offset.

For example with an opamp: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operational_amplifier_applications#Summing_amplifier

connect one input to the cv out and the second to a fixed 1V (or adjustable with a potentiometer)

Of course not everybody might be interested in making own circuits, but I would say that it is the great advantage of (semi)modular synths that you can do things the manufacturer didn't think of  :)

my new microbrute has a different cv out issue:

the pitch cv output scale is strangely compressed in the lowest octave:
instead of 0v ... 1v, it's 0v ... 0.98v.
all the other octaves seem fine - with the same -0.02v offset:
1.98v ... 2.98v ... 3.98v ... etc.

any idea what might be wrong? is this a calibration issue or a defect of some sort?

I measured the CV of my unit int he lower two octaves, and it has an offset of about -10 mV (-0.01 V). I plotted all the notes, as you can see in the attachment it is basically only the very lower C that is clamped to exactly 0V (and maybe the C# has a bigger error than the rest, but my multimeter is not so accurate). Clearly the CV output is not able to output negative voltages. Otherwise, the tracking seems to be as good as my multimeter can measure.

Probably there is an internal offset adjustment somewhere if you really care about the offset, but I think it doesn't matter because you anyway have to tune each oscillator if you are combining multiple analog synths.

Ok, attachment doesn't work. Here's the image: https://www.dropbox.com/s/csvl05mvvtme8iv/microbrute_tracking.png

yeah, it's probably not that much of an issue - as long as i don't use the lowest octave, which unfortunatley isn't really an octave in v/oct terms on my unit.

in practice, i may often end up applying a negative offset of or 2 or 3v to the mb's cv output anyway, because in its lowest octaves, its internal vco is extremely low, so i won't be playing those two octaves very often, but most external vcos have best tracking with cv between 0v and 4v. (i only got my mb two days ago and have ony just begun to explore its cv capabilities)

still, if there is an offset trimpot somewhere inside which would allow me to correct that -0.02v offset, i'd really like to know about it.

anyone from arturia, perhaps?

There are two small screws on the back, close to the fine tuning pot. I'm just assuming they're for tracking and offset.

Anyone?

might be best to start a new thread to ask this question.

oh cmon arturia! it can't be that hard to answer this simple question?

how to calibrate my cv output, pretty pretty pretty please?
