Spark LE Live 9 not recording midi

can't get sparkle to record midi in ableton.  Followed the instructions from the spark 1.6 pdf and attached a screen shot of both midi tracks.  I have set the Spark LE midi sync input to OFF in the MIDI Sync / Preferences.  I can load the Spark LE VST and hear the drums play back but when I record no midi gets recorded.

Hi,
did you set the "Send MIDI from Pads" and "Send MIDI from Sequencer" preferences to ON?
