Spark to sequence Minibrute

Hey Guys,

Does anyone know if it's possible to use the spark as a sequencer and send midi note information via the midi out? It seems to me that this is possible (I've only just got my Spark and MBrute) so still learning. I have the Clock set up, but I'd like to unload a sample and use the track to send note information to the MBrute.

Hi,
unfortunately this is not possible because you can not send different MIDI note for the same instrument in Spark.
You can only send one note.
So unless your music is very very simple this wont be very useful .

the only thing you could do would be to think of each pad as a semitone

i'm pretty sure that instrument 1 is a C, not sure which number.

then you would have that C + 15 more semitones, thinking of each instrument as a different pitch

not like a sequencer at all really, but hey you could play with it a little i guess

Thanks for the responses guys, that's too bad. Do you know if there are any revisions for the spark software that will allow such a thing to happen?

Ideally I'd like to have a series of different note data coming out from the spark to control changes in the apeggigator in the minibrute, which I use currently as a bass
synth. Thus freeing up my hands to play other keyboards.

Aside from that though, I'm pretty happy with my spark. And I love the minibrute.

This is currently not planned but who knows what the future will hold.

Please add my voice to request opening up Spark's Sequencer to MIDI output.

While I know Arturia is justifiably proud of their sound engine, the real breakthrough of Spark is its fast and efficient Sequencing.

I'd like nothing more than to use Spark to send sequenced MIDI to other plugins (BFD?, CS80v?), outboard equipment, etc.

It struck me as a complete oversight not to have this functionality from Day 1, but again, I guess Arturia was (reasonably) focused on showcasing its Sound engine vs. general rhythm based MIDI.

I don’t feel this is a missing feature.  As said above, Spark big winning point is speed of workflow; as soon as you start to move a pure product like Spark into other areas, the workflow starts to suffer..

For me , these sort of features normally just end up being fun toys that give you a couple of days worth of playing around before you realise that there are much better ways to achieve the same result using dedicated/purpose build solutions.

For example, my Jomox 999 drum machine has MIDI tracks.  These were great fun for a weekend but then forgotten and never used again once I got to the end of my technical/experimental curiosity and realised how clunky there were.

..just my thoughts..

I agree with punkDisco. Use the proper tools for the job. Spark is a drum machine, pure and simple. There are plenty of other pieces of kit perfectly capable of chucking out sequences (control or note). I for one would NOT like to see Spark turn into something like Maschine which is trying to be all things to all musicians (and DJs). And lighting engineers. And migraine specialists.

I don't agree with you guys: only big thing missing with Spark is the chance to play external midi-gear and/or other soft synths! I don't think I am the only one who has for example Arturia V-collection. Wouldn't be nice to get bass/synth from one or two of those synths or even some drumlike thing. In my case I would really like to play my Origin or Virus with Spark step seq. No you probably say that why don't I integrate them (spark + hardware) in some DAW. But believe me, there's no DAW to have this pattern based workflow which is as good as Spark in both song production but also for live usage. I really hope that Arturia guys will understand this possibility and finaly start developing Spark as an DAW-independent pattern based miditool. There's no real competition in that and I am also including iOS apps...

if sequencing external hardware with spark is possible, it will double the value of spark for me.
i always wondered about this missing feature, especially after release of the minibrute.
spark & minibrute would be an awesome live team this way.
imagine switching  bitween drum and sequencer mode instantly. make changes on the fly in sequencing mode and switch back to drum mode and bring in the break.
imho this would turn spark into the most value for the money gear out there and would leave NI maschine somewhere far behind.

They show you how to sequence external hardware and softsynths. Pretty Awesome!

I have tried some of these tips with Spark LE and they do work. There seem to be some quirks with Spark LE, that I'm not sure are the same on Spark. (So, I set up everything (I think) like described in vids 1-3. In vid 4, Terry shows you how to record your software drums/synth sequences into your DAW and into Spark's standalone software. So for Spark LE, recording into your DAW is the same like in the vids.)

But recording patterns into Spark LE, some of the buttons don't light up, mainly the Pattern and Seq. buttons. The bigger Spark doesn't have dedicated Sequence buttons. So if I were to manually select the 'Patt.' button on Spark LE, it will show which current pattern I'm on. But if I switch the pattern from 1 to 13, then 13 won't light up unless I hit the 'Patt.' button again. Same thing with the 'Seq.' button. If I'm manually entering in notes into a sequence slot, the steps of the sequence won't light unless I hit the 'Seq.' button. Not a big deal, it's just something to be aware of. I'm actually loving using Spark LE as a controller now that Terry posted these videos.
