A little bit unrelated note, but I think it should be considered somehow having some internal way to change the hidden features, so that things like legato and all could be changed without having to connect to a computer.
Two example possibilities I can think of are how the sub phatty and the Alesis q25 controller are set up.
I've seen in a video that the sub phatty uses some combinations of the bank select buttons to change hidden parameters, including a key that has a list of all the combinations of lights and buttons and their meanings. The q25 controller has a Select button that when pressed gives each key a function; e.g. pressing Select then a certain labeled key enables you to press some of 9 other keys to enter the digits of the MIDI channel.
Maybe a sort of combo of both those methods. Perhaps pressing both octave buttons at once, or an octave button + tap tempo, could be like the Select button, and the octave indicator lights could signal current settings and when it is in hidden setting edit mode. I wouldn't mind having to look off a cheat sheet to do this, it's easier than having to connect to a computer, and surely you'd get used to all the combos after a bit.
