The retrig lock on Elektron sequencers is buried behind a menu and very inconvenient to set for multiple steps. So in my opinion that is not a good example of doing things.
On the Rolands (e.g. T-8) you can enter a ratchet with just one (combo) press of the step, cycling between (1/1, 2/1, 3/1, 4/1, Flam). Way faster, and simpler.
