Hi everybody

I made some user presets today and I have 2 presets I can't load now, because Pigments 3.5 crashes everytime I tried to load and play the presets. Some hours ago everything was fine and the presets were ready to load. But now, when I load the Presets everything is still fine but when I wanna play, Pigments crashes.

The problem must be whitin the harmonic engine, because when I deactivate Engine 1, where the harmonic is used, Engine 2 plays his sound. When I load a new harmonics in Engine 1, everything is okay. But the specific harmonics loaded with the preset crashes Pigments.

I also copied harmonic from Engine 1 without modulation to Engine 2, deactivated the Engine 1 but now Engine 2 crashes the Synth with the same harmonics.

Greetings

Hi,

In case it's a install error, then you can try to reinstall Pigments. I assume it's updated.

It does sound like you perhaps overload your CPU and/ or system in other ways.
Do you have issues, just after you restart your computer?
Which excact CPU do you use?
Which OS do you use?
Which soundcard doo you use at wich buffer and sample rate settings?
You can also try to set higher buffer settings with a 44100 Hz samplerate to see if that help so you don't crash. That can at least be a useful troubleshooting test.

The Harmonic Engine can pull teeth out of you CPU. If you use many Partials, Unison voices, many Grains,, play many notes, and then even double it by using a second Harmonic Engine, then you can need a very powerful computer.

Perhaps you can post screenshots of your Harmonic Engine settings? Or perhaps try to post the preset, but then it has to possible to be able to load it to be of any use to troubleshoot.

The PC isn't the newest, it is 8 years old now and still runs with Windows 8.1
But I think it isn't a problem with the cpu power or something, because some hours earlier there was no Problem with playing or loading the presets.

I am now testing some things and I found out, that the Problem is the part where I can change between Window/Cluster/Shepard. Window and Cluster are working but if I change to Shepard and wanna play the sound from this preset, Pigments crashes. If I use a different preset, take harmonic and change it to Shepard, it works so it is only a problem with Harmonic with Shepard in this 2 presets.

After I changed the Gain in Shepard the presets suddenly worked, even if I change the Gain back to the old position. But after that, I load Pigments again, the same error, even if I changed the Gain in Shepard, it still crashes.

Strange!

I don't have issues with the settings i can see in your screenshot.
Where does the yellow frame i see around the screenshot come from?

Is there anything going on in the Second Engine, the Utillity Engine and in the Effect section, that cause a high CPU usage, in the sound you show in your screenshot?

Did you reinstall Pigments like i suggested?
Are you having your PC set to high performance mode?
And again which excact CPU are you using?
How muchh Ram do you have?
Are there anything else going on on your computer, when you crash?
And again do you have the issue, just after a freash restart of your computer?

There is'nt anything obvious by now, that should make your PC crash.
An error in the OS can't be ruled out. So you can run a sfc/ scannow to check you system for errors and repair them if there are and it's possible to repair this way.
Also normal system maintenance can be tried.

The green/yellow window is the Windows 8.1 standard window around every programm, it is yellow/green because of my wallpaper.

Windows 8.1
Intel Xeon 1230v3 @3.30ghz
MSI MPower Z87 mainboard
2x8 GB DDR3-1600 Ram
AMD PowerColor Radeon R9 270x

The error happens in the standalone version of Pigments and also in Cubase 10.5 pro. Even when I close everything else in Pigments, no FX, no Engine 2 and Utility, no modulations, only the Engine 1 with this Harmonic settings in my 2 presets will crash the synth. It also happend right after the computer has booted.

I also reinstalled the synth but it's still crashing.

INHO - with your specs you should'nt have issues with that simple sound. Especially not, if your system is optimized for music production.

I would try to run a Windows repair in the prompt, like i suggested. You shall right click and select the prompt to run as administrator. There are guides on the web to do it.

If it does'nt help, then i suggest you contact Arturia support through your account.
It's not a generel Pigments bug. It can be a Pigment error when running on your system. Or about something with your system.

The strange thing is, sometimes it works and don't crashes. I made a new preset with similar harmonic and it works. When I then load the Preset which normally crashes, the preset don't crashes. When I changed from shepard to window (it still works) and then again back to shepard, it crashed again.

If the error appears only in this 2 presets (or the test presets based on this presets) it is okay for me, because there are some workarounds. If the error appears on other presets or when I play the synth, I will come back and give the new infos here.

Thanks and have I nice new week!
