TLDR: Pads and keys triggering at the same time, need help separating the two.

Hello,

Coming up on a week with my Keylab essential 88, and finally feel like I'm getting close to understanding most things about it. Appreciate everyone's help so far in getting there.
As I searched through previous threads, I realize this has been brought up before, but I haven't seen a thread dealing specifically with my issue (Or maybe there is one and I'm not seeing it).

Like many out there, I'd like to play analog lab's keys/synths on my keyboard, and separately have access to another instance of analog lab (or another VI altogether) for drum sounds on my 8 pads. I would preferably like to have access to the entire key range of drums instead of splitting the keyboard to only a limited range of drums (which is a workaround I've been doing through analog lab by using c0-c2 for drums, and everything above that for a synth).

However, knowing I can somehow separate the MIDI channels entirely for the pads, I want to take advantage of this feature and not just settle for a workaround every time. I've uploaded a video showing you my settings in MIDI control center, where my keyboard is set to channel 1, and my pads to channel 2. Then I go into Logic to show that I have two tracks containing an instance of analog lab, both set to MIDI channels 1 and 2. I also have physically selected the "User 1" custom preset on my keyboard so that it cooperates.

However, any time I hit a key on my keyboard (or my drum pads) it still triggers sounds on both tracks simultaneously, instead of triggering the specific sound assigned to its respective MIDI channel.

(apologies for no sound in the video, however the levels bouncing up and down at the same time, as well as visually showing how my most of my settings are set, should indicate what I'm getting at)

Can someone please help out? Or if I'm not making sense let me know how I can clarify

Hi,

TLDR: Pads and keys triggering at the same time, need help separating the two.
How do you know this?

I don't use MAC/ Logic. I also don't have a Arturia controller. I can try to help.

You say you use 2 instances of Analog Lab.
You have set pads and keys on your controller to different midi channels - midi channel 1 and 2.
You only play either the pads or the keys - but not both.
You say you have chosen the correct Keylab User template - So i presume you are in USER mode.

(If needed you can allways use a midi monitor to check the controller actually output on different midi channels.)

Then you show, you have set a midi channel parameter in Logic. The questions is, what this parameter actually is, and if something else need to be done.

From Logic Pro user guide:
"Edit track parameters for the selected track:
MIDI Input Port pop-up menu: Choose a MIDI port for the track input, all input ports,
or Internal & Remote, which routes input from the Musical Typing keyboard and from
Logic Remote.
• MIDI Input Channel pop-up menu: Choose the MIDI channel for the track input, or all
input channels.
• MIDI Output Channel pop-up menu: Choose the MIDI channel for the track output, or all
output channels."

I wonder if you set the midi channel that's recieved from the controller in you video or you set the send to instrument midi channel?
If it's the recieve from controller channel, then i wonder how you set the midi channel send to the instrument - and the other way around?

Also - Have you done this: https://www.logicprohelp.com/instruments-tracks-midi-channels/ ?

It look like a midi channel routing issue of some kind in Logic.
It look like your 2 Logic tracks recieve on ALL midi channels.

You don't show or tell, if you have changed midi channel settings for your 2 Analog Lab instances. If not, then they might are set to recieve on ALL midi channels. (It depend on the preset, how this will work.)

FYI: You can get problems with Analog Lab,  if the recieve channel and the send to instrument channel in Logic is the same, as ie organs is set to recieve on certain channels, and you need the full applications to change this.
Keep in mind that changing midi channels on your controller and in Logic does'nt change midi channels in Analog Lab or other applications for that matter.

I was getting ready to call it quits, but this did it for me! Many thanks to you

With logic, there’s always a hidden checkbox somewhere left unchecked (so I don’t blame you for not using it lol). For me I didn’t have “auto demix by channel if multitrack recording” enabled, also didn’t have both tracks “pre-armed” or record enabled.

I’m now able to play piano or synths on my keys, while controlling a completely separate instrument  track (loaded with an instance of Analog Lab, or any other virtual instrument for example) in my 8 pads on my keylab essential. I’ll preferably use them for drums, but this opens up hundreds of new possibilities.

I really appreciate the level of detail you went into to help me solve my problem. If you had a trustpilot or google review page I would be all over it. Also super impressive considering you don’t own a logic, a keylab essential, or a Mac for that matter lol.
