Copying French 79 Sound
« on: August 01, 2021, 09:00:45 pm »
Hi, I'm a beginner music producer trying to imitate a few synths that I've heard from French 79.

The first one is from his track "Quartz" https://youtu.be/lz2kFOpZsJw?t=206 starting at 3:30
Started from pigments 3 preset "Classic Lead" I added auto detuning with envelope 3 and auto vibrato with 5.01Hz sine lfo (0.20 amount) also linked to env 3; changed filter to multimode lp36, cutoff to 12698Hz.
Here's the result https://jmp.sh/lnfLVqV
I'd like to know how to improve the main synth sound and the overall sound of this. Also my track is missing that "raaawr" mid-low sound that comes along every time the bass hits (or maybe is it the bass itself?) and I have no clue how to do it.
The arp is pigments 3 preset "One More Day In Abidjan" slightly tweaked. For the sub and bass I've used a vital sine and a monark slightly distorted bass.

The second one is the synth from "Hometown" https://youtu.be/yAv5pLO37mE?t=171 starting at 2:52
Sounds a bit like a brass but the sound is a lot less aggressive and stinging, how would you call a sound like this first of all?
The closest that I could hear was from u-he Diva and here's an example https://jmp.sh/XMshNp7 (you can hear a crackling sound from time to time because it's the demo version).

Thanks.

p.s. jumpshare (jmp.sh) is a screenshot and file sharing software.
