Digital 'hash'
« on: September 02, 2005, 03:28:06 pm »
I've been happily using the Modular for a month now.  It runs practically without incident as a plugin in protools LE on a G5.

This morning I was editing a patch and switched from LP to BP on Filter 2/Multimode and got the worst 'hash' I've ever heard; the master fader that goes to the monitors was at -infinity, but the physical volume was up just a bit (I was monitoring on headphones through a separate aux bus) although I always keep a brickwall limiter on the Modular when I'm changing things.

But this got right through the Master Fader at - infinity and popped the drivers (and the headphones) practically out of their frames.  I've got the system shut down now and will check for damage to the drivers (pretty darn expensive monitors, too) as soon as my hearing begins to come back.

Anyone else ever have this happen?  This was much louder than 'clipping' the processor, or anything else, for that matter.  Since it went through a master fader that was essentially 'off', how is one to contend with this?  (please type loudly! )

Thanks,
Max

Hi, again.  I'd like to bump this, as it's a problem from time to time.

The Modular is definitely one of the coolest bits of software I've ever used; I wish this 'hash' problem wasn't so persistent.

Thanks!!!

Max
