Volume goes up when turning main knob for volume down
« on: November 17, 2020, 09:47:27 pm »
When trying to volume down turning main knob with normal speed or very fast, the volume goes suddenly up, almost blowing up my monitors. I am afraid the knob for output level is broken. How can I have it fixed? Is it possible to send anywhere or visit some service in Poland? This is so frustrating, need to use Control Center to volume down. Year ago it was not so damaged, but right now it is impossible to use this output level knob

interesting...  I have the very same problem since a few months....    sometimes its like blowing up the speakers,
when turning down the volume knob, but the volume turns up and goes very loud..
don´t know if this is a software problem or the knob / electronic is defective?

I am having this exact problem as well since a few weeks and am very frustrated! :(
Even if I try to turn the knob very slowly it jumps noticeably. That's very odd and shouldn't happen with a interface in this price-range...
I hope this is a fixable software issue, because this problem restricts the use of the interface a lot.

Hi, Could you tell me if you have the 1st or 2nd Audiofuse, i guess you all are on the latest firmware?  Need to know if this happens connected to a computer or without.  i have both units here and want to test as I've not seen this in normal operation.

Also have you raised a support ticket?

Thanks

Hi Terrym,

I have the 1st Audiofuse as well. (latest firmware)
It happens with and without a connection to a computer. Also, it happens in each power-mode / power-state.

Also I should add: When turning the knob (both directions), the blue light indicator-dots, which apparantly representing the Gain Level, are jumping randomly (e.g. from two dots to eight - visually speaking).

Hi All
I did some tests here and i don't have any jumps unless i flick the knob fast but this is due to the accelaration method  arturia went with for the main volume, but I'm not a big fan of this type of method so i will ask the main designers about this as i would really like to have just a relative motion, what do you think?

The relative motion could be a good idea, if it solves it, even better!

Actually, I now believe it´s a software/driver/firmware issue and not hardware related.
I just booted the Audiofuse on emergency firmware to initially test, if some of the firmware updates were the reasons for this problem, and weirdly enough the wheel works just fine with the 0.1.0 emergency firmware. As soon as I update the firmware to  1.0.4 / 1.1.0 / 1.1.1 it starts jumping again. Don't know if thats any help...

I have also been having this problem for months now and not only am I worried about my speakers but my hearing. I am not sure how loud it gets but I assume it jumps to 0db and my normal listening volume is around -40db. I went into the audio settings and turned the trim to the lowest setting -12db. I figure at least if it jumps to full volume it won't be quite as loud. So far I haven't had the volume jump since changing the setting but it has been random for me.

Hello everyone.
I Have the same problem with the volume. It randomly jumps. And when I try to turn it down it goes up again and again.
It happens shifting the volume knob fast or slow.
I am also really worried about my hearing. My monitors suddenly go really loud. its something very annoying. Now i'm kinda afraid of touching the knob tbh.
I have the 1st Audiofuse , bougth it 2 years ago. Lastest firmware and software.

Hi all I’ve spoken to arturia about this and they say they are aware of the problem that you’re having but they cannot identify at this moment what is causing the issue as they cannot see the issue themselves that’s not to say it’s not there I have started to use the version one for the audio fuse a bit more to see if I can spot this issue at my end
Thanks

SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM:

i spoke to a friend who had the very same issue.

Over time a lot of dust and
especially skin-particles from your fingers will fall into the spaces between Wheel and audiofuse case.

if you remove the wheelknob you will see there is no real shielding at all (i only can speak about the AF Rev.1, very poor hardware design)
i assume thats the reason why the sensors get irritated and it results in those volume spikes while moving the wheel

what you wanna do:  Remove the Wheel, clean the inner wheel with a Cotton swab and alot of Isopropanol 99%

WARNING:  Don´t use any other Cleaner, no contact-cleaner, no fancy electronic cleaning sprays or other stuff.
Don´t use isopropanol 60% oder lower.  Most of the cleaners have other liquids and / or worse parts of water in it, that will
destroy the electronics over time with cororsion.

Only use the the real deal with 99% - u can use a lot, it will not harm your components.

We testet it on both AFs and they are running like new, without any problems...
