KeyLab Essential with Vr09

Just got my KeyLab 49 Essential and wanted to use it love with my Vr09 to split the sounds from my Vr09. I can't figure out how to make them connect, on the Vr09 I have the Midi set to keyboard and the channel set to 5, on the KeyLab I have my user midi channel of 5 but no sound when I split. Any help?
