It seems that Sequencer works in both sync source modes (Int or USB), but Arp only works when using MicroFreak's internal clock.

Is this correct?

Can someone explain technically?

Thanks

Arp works with ext midi clock also , you have to make sure you midi clock source is playing, if you use a DAW the DAW must be running in order for MF arp to work.
Juno 6, Poly 61, Casio CZ-1, Moog MF-105M, Digtech Talker, Microfreak, Ipad (AUM), Pianotech, Modular and Ableton.

You are right. It worked. I could've sworn it didn't before, but this stuff plays tricks on you in the beginning because of some other setting you forgot.

I'm finding the MicroFreak quite fussy with clock syncing and DAW / USB connection.

maybe it's just getting a better understanding of MIDI channels, clock syncing etc.

Q: Is it possible to use a DAW arpeggiator to send midi to the MicroFreak's midi out port? (I think it's not because you then create a loop as the output destination must be set to BOTH - for the Microfreak to receive MIDI over USB and then send it through its MIDi out port.

Update: I have definitely found the MF to be finnicky with midi over USB.

But, I'm going to assume it's my errors.

I've got it behaving the way I want it to.

For anyone else experiencing problems, make sure you have the right sync settings that you want, that the master clock is playing when you try to arpeggiate or sequence, and check that you have not created a midi loop with your hybrid setup.

It works but doesn't sync properly, as shown by the community: https://www.facebook.com/groups/ArturiaMicroFreak/permalink/476734989652691/

Just for reference if someone finds this thread, when trying to fix the arpeggiator synchronization with the DAW, I found out that the MicroFreak's internal beat clock needs a `START` message over the MIDI Beat Clock signal, in order to restart itself. Check if your DAW can be configured to send a `START` every time you start moving the playhead (when you press play). Also, you need to connect the DAW's generated clock to the MicroFreak, but that's probably already done since you say that you have matched tempos.
I wrote a bit more in https://forum.arturia.com/index.php?topic=107748 .

The DAW I'm using (Ardour 6.7.0) is only sending `START` when you start from the start of the timeline (00:00:00:00); you can inspect that with some MIDI inspector.
It seems that Cubase can be configured to always send `START` instead of `CONTINUE`: https://steinberg.help/cubase_pro_artist/v9/en/cubase_nuendo/topics/synchronization/synchronization_project_synchronization_dialog_midi_clock_destinations_r.html .

Someone at https://discourse.ardour.org/t/hardware-synthesizer-arpeggiator-does-not-sync-arturia-microfreak-midi-clock-start-sent-only-at-time-zero/106139/4 suggested using a programmable MIDI processor/cable (https://www.retrokits.com/shop/rk002) to do it with hardware.

EDIT: I solved it with a midi-mapping plugin, converting CONTINUE messages to START. See more here https://forum.arturia.com/index.php?topic=107748.msg185066#msg185066

Hi!

I am a new MF user and unfortunately I am having the same issues with MF and Cubase and I can't find the solution!
I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. I have many others midi instruments and all work perfectly with my setup. MicroFreak is the only one who denies to collaborate and work as it should.

I am using Cubase 11, all the sync options are correct...

If you guys still have a clue and could help I will really appreciate it!

Thanks,

Dionysios -

Hi all,

personally I've found the solution for Cubase and is very simple: https://forum.arturia.com/index.php?topic=108660.msg187669#msg187669
Now everything works perfectly for me.

Thanks,

Dionysios -
