Newbie--KeyLab MkII Connection options
« on: June 09, 2019, 02:17:55 pm »
I'm waiting for delivery of a KeyLab61MkII I've just ordered.  I'm a newbie pre-reading the manual.  I have a Steinberg UR22 mkII audio interface with MIDI IN/OUT.

It appears I'll have connection options. I'm wondering about pros/cons of these connection options the KeyLab.

Option 1- KeyLab USB -->desktop computer USB

Option 2 - Keylab MIDI OUT-->Audio Interface (AI) MIDI IN and then AI USB-->Computer

So, with Option 2, I'd use a separate power connector (9-12V) to power Keylab

Thanks!

Yep that sums it up.
If you have enough spare USB sockets, I can't off the top of my head think of any advantages you might gain by connecting it up via legacy midi cables through your audio interface. You would also lose the close-knitted integration with Analog Lab, which is a key part of the KeyLab's selling-point as a hybrid synth.
