Low latency on non-ASIO soundcards
« on: February 25, 2005, 10:31:53 pm »
I found a nifty little utility that uses your soundcard driver to bypass the windows delay that ASIO was designed to avoid, without needing ASIO capability on your soundcard.

The utility is called ASIO4ALL and can be downloaded free from www.asio4all.com. It worked wonders with my CS-80V and I can now play "live" rather than having to compose MIDI files to get useable tracks from it.

It's amazing what a difference it makes. It's gone from a latency of around 150ms to around 10 or 20ms.

I'm not sure if it works on every single card, but I get the impression that if you have a working driver, it'll find it and use it.

It partlicularly works well with SB Audigy 2 which uses pretty crappy drivers.  I hapen to use the card but started using Asio4All about a year ago and I just love.  I will keep using it even though SB comes up with better drivers for the 24 bit playback and recording.

I used the have the same problem, had to record midi piano, then copy the midi data to a track with CS80V.
