Newbie Questions
« on: March 14, 2021, 07:56:27 pm »
Literally brand new to the Keylab 61 MK2 (and to use a midi device having not used one for around 20 years - back to my music roots and all that) - I've managed to get Analog Lab working without any problems, but experiencing some issues where Ableton Live 10 Lite is concerned.

1) currently I don't have an audio interface, I'm using the MK2 via USD, I've also installed ASIO4ALL (no lag/delay and the sound quality is really good in Analog Lab for example) however when loading into Ableton the use of ASIO4ALL is then seemingly stopping Youtube videos from playing (audio rendering problem error). Now I don't (at this point) plan on using other external instruments beyond my MIK2 however I do use my existing speakers and headphones via my PC connections. At a guess loading up Ableton is causing audio issues for other applications on my computer (when run at the same time) - my question is, would an audio interface (such as a Forcusrite Scarlett 2i2 3rd gen) over come this issue of having to mess about with audio settings on my computer?

2) after a lot of trial and error, i've managed to get sound out of Ableton Live by setting the DAW to Live (on the MK2) and getting a little familiar with the basics of Ableton. That said, I'm still a little confused by the Preferences > Link Midi settings. I'm a little confused by the Track, Sync and Remote settings (and which of the input/outputs should actually be on or off. I've attached a screenshot of both the Link Midi and Audio tabs for reference.

3) although the activity from the MK2 is coming through into Ableton, and although the MIDI device is selected within the Link Midi options, the buttons and keys on the MK2 don't appear to work properly. For example, one of the D keys changes the view in Ableton, whilst some of the keys simply don't work at all when pressed.  Some of the Transports buttons are lit but don't do anything, whilst the DAW command keys don't work. It's almost as though the DAW connection isn't properly recognised based on the device or that the device isn't properly mapped. I thought I'd perhaps selected the wrong DAW (I've set it to Live) but don't think the issue is specific to that. Any suggestions?

Thanks for any suggestions or answers... i'm literally itching to get started making music but the technical issues are obviously holding me back at this point!

Welcome.

I'm totally unfamiliar with Ableton so I can't help you specifically. However with regards to your query re asio4all, I think that behaviour is correct because asio4all purposefully hogs whichever sound device you allocate to it. If you bought a second sound card and assigned asio4all to it, you would have to send YouTube through your internal soundcard.
