Not sure if there's a good reason why they don't do this currently...
But when i want to quickly assign a sound for layer 2 in analog lab mode, the 9 quick category buttons (eg. piano, organ etc.) switch back to, and change, layer one instead.
I feel like if you have layer 2 selected, they should affect that instead.
