Minibrute Midi sync'd Arpeggio skipping problem solved
« on: March 02, 2015, 09:56:33 pm »
I've had this issue from day one with the Minibrute-- so I generally don't use the arpeggio because I haven't been able to get it to sync properly. It doesn't matter when I press the keys to initiate the arpeggio, it refuses to start on the 1. It's always on the off beat. This is true for both hardware and software syncing.

I also can't understand why more people haven't raised this issue here-- so I'm wondering if it's just my Minibrute that has this defect?

I really wish there was some way to clock the arp from the gate input. It seems like this is the only reliable way to get two devices to stay in sync with one another over any given length of time. Midi would be alright if I could get it to work, but even with Midi, I find that two clocks will drift in and then slightly out of sync.

Perhaps Arturia could issue some kind of hardware modification instructions for users who want to implement a hard sync clock input? Is this possible?

Ok, so its not quite as bad as I thought. After researching a little deeper-- I figured out partially what my problem was. In order to get the Minibrute arp to sync properly, the arpeggio must already be on and running, then a Midi start+clock will initiate sync. When sync is initiated in this order-- the Minibrute syncs up really well I'm finding (!) It doesn't seem to drift like some other Midi arpeggio syncs I've used.

I guess I'm always trying to 'play' the arpeggio to a drum machine, the way I would with an SH101, but the Minibrute simply doesn't work this way. Not a big deal for studio playing, but maybe not so great for playing live. It would be nice if it could sync up on the fly.

Probably if there was some hardware mod to inject external clock, this 'on the fly' style sync would be possible. Maybe someone has already published this modification. I think I'll take a look.

Ok, I found a clock input modification among the "Mega-brute" PDF mods. It's extremely simple, and very easy to implement, so I went ahead and made the modification (plus clock output). It's not perfect, but it's pretty useful, for me, better than no clock input.
