Couple of basic programming questions

I am new to Mini Mgs but have been messing around with the V.  Also, I did read the manual..... question about a couple of controls:

1) The Oscillator Modulation and Oscillator 3 Control:  If I go to the mod matrix and set VCO3 as a source I can hear it's effect on the sound.  However, it seems no matter what I do (when the mod matrix is shut off) I can't hear any difference in the sound of VCO 1 or 2 whether either or both the Oscillator Mod or Oscillator 3 Controls are off or on, or any combination.  I do note than when the Oscillator 3 Control is (presumably) off (pressed down) the keyboard has no effect on pitch (of VCO 3 itself.)  The manual says it effects whether the VCO will oscillate itself??  So, could someone explain in basic terms what these two switches do and/or if possible point me to a patch where throwing/tweaking them will have a big effect on the sound.

2)  What exactly does Unison do?  Again, the manual says it lets all the voices sound on one note, but I don't hear much difference.... is there a patch where it is really clear?

Sorry for the basic questions, but I'm trying to learn this programming thing.... it is NEVER too late to teach an old dog!

You're on the right track.  Perhpas the only thing you didn't try was adding the modulation wheel.  The mod wheel determines how much of OSC 3's signal is allowed to modulate OSC 1 & 2 (and the filter, if the Filter Modulation switch is On).

The Oscillator Modulation switch determines whether OSC 3 will modulate OSC 1 & 2.  Rock it to the right to turn osc mod on.

You are correct, the OSC 3 Control controls whether the keyboard affects the pitch of OSC 3.  For vibrato, set OSC 3 range to Lo, and waveform to Triangle.  Turn OSC 3 Control off so vibrato speed will be unaffected by the keyboard.  Then turn OSC 3 frequency knob to the desired LFO (vibrato) speed.  Finally, add Modulation wheel to hear the effect.

Okay, that did it..... became much clearer when the mod wheel was pushed forward!   Thanks.

Anyone have ideas about the Unison switch?  Other than that, I think I "technically" understand the controls of the MiniV (of course, that doesn't mean I know what to do with some of them to produce great sound!!  :lol: )

The unison switch lets you play several notes of the same pitch detuned according the voice detune button. You can set the number of playing voices with the voice number in the toolbar.

How do you go about setting the modulation depth? I've got an existing track that I'd like to use the MiniV sounds on, but (in general) the Mini vibrato is MUCH deeper than the synths I originally tracked.

I've done all of that, but for some reason, the OSC 3 frequency knob has NO effect on the vibrato rate.  It seems like something is overriding that knob.  Any ideas?
