What CPU for best performance?
« on: June 29, 2016, 07:28:00 pm »
What CPU, speed/#cores gives "good" results for the Matrix12? I'm running on a 4.5GHz AMD 8-core CPU with 32G of RAM and after about 6-8 voices, this thing chokes.

It's odd. Another had issues with another AMD CPU here: http://forum.arturia.com/index.php?topic=87941.msg132524#new
You can read my posts in that thread. Perhaps there are some info you can use.

I use a Intel I7 Sandy Bridge (4 cores + 4 hyperthreads). Skylakes is even better. But any good processor should do.

Just keep in mind, that in Audio Production a high CPU clockrate is still important as many applications only use a single core for a task.
For instance: 4 real cores is better than 2 real cores + 2 hyperthreads. And 4 real cores with a clockrate at 4.5 Ghz is better than 8 cores with half that clockrate, because you CPU will choke if just one core is stressed.
Not sure hyperthrading is good. Real cores will be better. But i don't exsperience issues with my hyperthreading. I will not have too many cores. Perhaps only 4. Multicore processes can create latency if the process is using more than 4 cores i think. That's not good for real time audio performance. But having more cores may not matter as long more than 4 cores is not involved in a single process. No matter what a high clockrate pr core is needed. But better asking a technician about that. Better ask a technician about it all. But this is my inputs. I hope you can use it.
