Digital Popping inside ProTools
« on: February 23, 2005, 02:06:13 am »
Hey,

I'm using MMV inside of ProTools and am experiencing digital 'pops' or 'clicks' while playing. I've tried running the plug as both an RTAS & TDM and get the same results no matter which way I go.

System specs are as follos:
G5 Dual 2.5ghz
2 GB Ram
ProTools 6.7
MacOS 10.3.8
Mg Modular v. 2.1

I had this problem once before and was able to fix it by upping the cpu usage limit inside of ProTools. However, I'm now maxed out and can't do that anymore. I'm running no other apps, have no other plugs running in my session (actually I haven't done anything in there yet).

Thanks for any help!

Dave

Which audio latency do you use when playing the MMV ?
I suppose that you want to play the MMV live, but for some patches the amout of calculation needed is very dependant of the varying parameters, so if you have a very short latency, cpu peaks due to short transient on certain parameters (like the filter frequency) may produce some short cpu overload, resulting in clicks and pops.
Try to set a longuer latency value when playing (a 5 to 10 ms value is very playable), this may smooth the cpu peaks.
