New Minibrute SE back - same problems!
« on: February 24, 2015, 03:15:12 pm »
Please can any Brute owners check for this behaviour on their units?

1. Turn all OSCs + noise + sub OSC + audio input fully down to achieve silence
2. Turn Main volume up
3. Open Filter Cut-off fully + No resonance
4. Turn LFO AMP all the way to either minus or plus sign

Can you hear the LFO making a high pitch sound???

I need to know if this is happening for all Minibrutes or just a select few!

Many Thanks

I will try to check this tonight Chi, but I anticipate this is normal. I have heard my Minibrute make some sounds without any wave forms set, and I think it was related to the LFO amp. It may have been amplifying the noise floor or something. I'll give it a shot tonight.

Thanks Zedius!  ;)

I suspect you may be right, it just seemed odd that an LFO would make a tone higher than middle C - its a "B" on mine, lol!

Ok, here is a recording I made of all the crazy sounds I was able to make switching betwee Amp LFO at max + and -, and playing with filter cutoff, resonance, LFO rate, and brute factor. All oscillator shapes are at minimum for this entire thing.

I think this is normal, and I actually think it's kinda cool. I'm sure there will be a useful application for this. In the meantime, I would avoid the maximum - or + settings on the amp LFO.

Be warned, the dynamic range on the attached wave file goes from difficult to hear faint buzzing to very loud very bassy noise and back again. I would listen with low volume the first time.

Thanks Zedius, that is very interesting!

It does sound very different to mine.  Yours has no high pitch tone at all and the LFO beating is not apparant - it sounds very buzzy though!?

I would expect quite alot of noise when engaging the feedback of the brutefactor but mine is weird without it. I have uploaded some very short examples of the whiney noise in a previous post - "LFO amp and rate noises - scratchy/crackles" - they are much quieter recordings than yours so no need to worry about volume levels.

Please take a listen. ;)
