BeatStep Setup w/ PC/iPad Individually (New User)

Whats going on?

I am new to using pad controllers.  I am wondering what I can do with that BeatStep as a brand new user.  I will just be playing around at my home.  Will I be able to set this up with just a PC only? what about an iPad?  Do I need to use Midi in, or CV's?  Do I need any extra software to use this other that what comes with it?  Do I need any extra cabling for any reason?

What will I need as a user that has never had anything to do with using controllers or anything at all?  I want the bare minimum to be able to play around with this device.

In order to use the BeatStep you will need to install the MidiControlCenter.
This tool will help you to configure your BeatStep. It's free and you can download it from :
