Firmware Update
« on: April 03, 2014, 10:09:15 am »
After the unit is unplugged/replugged, are all left-hand LED turned on (to indicate firmware upgrade mode)? If not there is a rescue mechanism to force firmware upgrade mode: power up while holding both Start and Stop buttons.
on Mac, we rely on device name to locate device in upgrade mode, and this name could have been changed (exceptionally) by Audio MIDI Setup
place device in firmware upgrade mode
        start "Audio MIDI Setup"
Insure MIDI window is visible (menu "Window->Show MIDI Window")
locate BeatStep, it could be either "Arturia BeatStep" or "BeatStep Updater"
        unplug BeatStep
delete corresponding item from Audio MIDI Setup window
try again update procedure as usual

hi Dav1d,
this procedure solved the communication issue between Midi Control Center and BeatStep under OSX 10.9.2, the device was listed as connected but MCC couldn't open the device. Now it is working, thank you  :)

Hi Dav1d,
I attempted to do this procedure (for Mac, OSX 10.9.2).
my "Audio MIDI Setup" see the beatstep, but it is just called "Device MIDI/USB" (not  "Arturia BeatStep" nor "BeatStep Updater").

I removed the device. Then I repeated the procedure but MCC failed to open the device (both the firmware upgrade and the syncronisation).

any suggestion?   :)

many thanks,

Dav1d

YES!

I succeeded! I had problem with USB socket,...here the my procedure:

(for my MacBook Pro (OSX 10.9.2) one USB socket did not recognize the BS and names in the "Audio MIDI Setup" the device as "Device MIDI/USB". The other one works fine (for me) and 'see' the BS device as "Beatstep Updater").

-plug the BS (holding START/STOP buttons).
-open MCC and "Audio MIDI Setup":
1) go to MCC and click button for Firmware Revision. MCC asks to locate firmware file, then it asks for unplug.
2) unplug the BS.
3) go to "Audio MIDI Setup" and remove the device named "Beatstep Updater"
4) go back to MCC, plug the BS (holding START/STOP buttons).
5) it works and you can sync.

thanks Dav1d.

just realize that I should do this everytime I connect the BS.  :(
it seems "Audio MIDI Setup" and MCC conflict... (cannot hear sound when MCC is syncronised, while when AMS works I can hear sound but I cannot control the device with MCC)

strange

Hey all!  I just purchased the BeatStep yesterday and I'm having the exact same issues as described above.  The midi control center recognizes that the beatstep is connected, but it will not allow me to sync or update the firmware.  I have followed the steps listed by Dav1d above about 10 times now and it still is not working.  I'm running Mac OSX and have the usb connected directly into my computer.  This is incredibly frustrating considering that I have to have the midi control center to use the unit.  If I can't get this resolved today I'm probably going to return it.  Hugely frustrating...I've been waiting for this ever since NAMM and now I finally have one and it doesn't work!

@JStorbeck: it doesn't work with any USB-port?

I agree with you, it is frustrating. I succeed to update, but I have to do this everytime  I plug it. :-(

Instead of making music with it, my first experience out of the box was trying to just get the damn thing to work with my MacBook!  I spent 2 hours just trying to get it to sync and none of the recommended fixes did jack...wtf arturia.  >:( ??? :'(

@theotrst I tried switching ports as you had suggested earlier before my first post and it still had no effect. My macbook is 2 months old running mavricks OS, I use a focusrite interface, run ableton, and logic pro X, never had a problem like this with any of my other USB connected gear.

@JStorbeck

The only thing I know is that I had you same problem (with OSX 10.9.2 / Mavericks). I succeeded checking the Audio MIDI Setup and removing the BS before plugging it: in this case, MCC could recognize the BS.

good luck!

David's directions worked great for me.  I had to go into apples native "Audio MIDI Setup" and rename the generic device to "Arturia Beatstep" but once I did, his directions worked perfectly.

what changes does the firmware update [BeatStep-v1.0.1.4] actually make?

just some bug fixes?  or more than that?

a list with the issues solved an features added will be nice... every brand always do this.

i hope arturia engineers can handle the features need it to be able to use this device without a laptop, there is syncing issues  use it as master, and no way to use it as a slave with out a laptop.
