Multi channel patch selection with Analog Factory in Sonar?
« on: January 06, 2009, 04:17:22 am »
I'm not sure exactly what to call this problem, so I'm going to try and explain it best I can.

I have the latest version (I think) of Analog Factory.

I'm running Sonar 6.1.

AF seems to work great at the core, and I love the sounds.

What I can't seem to figure out is how to use more than one patch at a time in a project, without loading another instance of AF.

For example, when running nearly every other soft synth I can think of (take LiveSynth or Sound Canvas for example), you run one instance of the Dxi/Vst on an Audio track.  Then from a MIDI track, you assign it to use the respective VST, and you pick the MIDI channel, back, patch, etc.  You can typically do this for all 16 MIDI channels.  E.g., have 16 different MIDI tracks, all using different sounds from your (one) plugin.

With AF, I have the options on my MIDI track to pick the usual channel, bank, patch.  The issue is that is doesn't have any affect!  No matter what info I pick in the MIDI track, AF only plays whatever patch the VST in the Audio track is set to.

My only solution thus far is to have one MIDI track per instance of AF.  This can obviously add up to quite a bit of overhead.  I have a decent system (dual core 4ghz, 4 GB RAM, separate 10K drives), but I'm kind of pushing it already with 4 instances, all my other plugins and 30+ audio tracks  :)

Thanks for any input!
