Setup questions - preferences don't "stick" - MIDI
« on: June 16, 2007, 10:59:58 pm »
I'm a new CS-80V user (upgraded to newest version) learning my way around the synth in standalone mode, and I've a couple of issues that are so basic I'm embarrassed to ask - but didn't see any answers around the site so here goes:

1) Standalone issue - my audio driver and sample rate settings in Preferences don't seem to want to "stick", i.e. with every new startup they're gone and I have to re-enter them. I've been File/Saving these preferences as *.cs80v files - but apparently not to the right location, I guess (I've been saving them to one of my data folders outside the Program Files/Arturia... folder), since they don't seem to have any effect. In what location should I be saving these settings so that they're effective on each startup, or is there another solution?

2) I really want to assign as many of the virtual controls as possible to my Novation Remote SL controller, which requires setting up a custom Novation template 6 pages "deep" - then also going through the "learn control" routine within CS-80V, obviously. I've got the first three pages set up for other realtime controls and main synthesis I/II areas - so far so good, more or less (but see (3) below), but I'm getting into a problem with setting up the last three pages of the template for the Multi-bay and Modulation bays. The problem is that, since I pretty much run out of cc numbers over the first three template pages (to avoid problems I haven't assigned cc numbers over standard ranges, such as cc's 1-11, so I'm not working out of a full 127), I figure I need to re-use some cc's but control over a different MIDI channel when I want to work in the Multi or Mod bay. I proceeded on the assumption that, if I set up the last three template pages to transmit on channel 2 instead of channel 1, then all I had to do, when I wanted to work in the bays, was switch the channel dropdown in the CS-80V toolbar to channel 2. So my assumption went, that would ensure that my control inputs in the bays didn't mess up the knobs and sliders in the realtime/synthesis areas, where I was transmitting re-used cc's which had also been assigned over the first three template pages (on channel 1). Unfortunately, after setting everything up I've found that when I input a control change within the bay areas, it will also alter the knob/slider for whatever other control happened to get the same cc assignment within the first three template pages - this is AFTER I've set the CS-80V to MIDI channel 2, and ensured that the relevant Remote SL template page (and global, for that matter) is set to transmit on channel 2. In other words, it seems to me that when I switch the CS-80V to a different MIDI channel, it isn't receiving "exclusively" on that channel, i.e. still receiving on all channels, or at least still receiving on channel 1 after I've switched to channel 2. Any solutions?

3) Going through the CS-80V "learn control" routine when setting up my templates, I found a few odd virtual controls that didn't appear to have a "learn" option when I CNTRL/Left clicked on them, such as the Tremolo rocker, Feet 1/2 sliders and the Pitch/Coarse ribbon controls (and a very few others). Is this program design or an anomaly, and if the latter is there a solution?

Thanks in advance for any assistance. Great phat sounds out of the box, BTW - very much looking forward to "exploring" around subtractive analog on this thing.

Welcome, bc.  Sorry, no idea on this one.  Sounds like a Windows issue.

Your conclusion is correct.  There is no solution.  Judiciously pick your "top 100."

Program design.  We've repeatedly requested that the omissions you note, among others, be fixed.

Yes, you can learn a lot with this thing.

For me that happens on ALL my Arturia VSTi's. CS80, Mg Modular, MiniMgV, Analog Factory, Prophet, Brass, etc.. In standalone mode, nothing is remembered.

I'm running Windows like you.

It's a long time bug and those knuckleheads who run the company have never fixed it.

I will forward to the samplerate sticking specialist.
