Yes, but it is worse readable now when connected to USB only. :(
This is not the final sollution yet.

ARTURIA please add a menu where you can set the readability of
the display. This should not be complicated. Thanks.

I could update ... from 1.0.0.10 to 1.1.0.4. It went like this:

1. I have a KL88 with a 600mA/6V power supply, which I connect before I connect USB, as described somewhere by Arturia.
2. I launched the MIDI Manager thing, which told me my firmware is old.
3. I accepted the update and the KL88s LCD was displaying a "bar" across the whole screen (no letters or digits etc)
4. It told me to power off and power on the device and I did.
5. The Upgrade installed and it looked fine

But here's something that scares me:

- Arturia says, we need 5.5V to properly drive the KL88
- They say we need to connect the PSU first, before the USB cable
- But when the MIDI tool asks us to power on an off, I don't know if I can disconnect the USB first, so the sequence is ok for poweron?

I'm worried the unplugging might disrupt the firmware upgrade process. I'm even MORE worried to do the firmware upgrade with power off/on, while both cables (6V PSU and USB) are connected ... because if Arturia says we need to connect the PSU first to power on, then it might mean, the formware upgrade is happening with the bad, flakey 5V from USB ... and it might die in the middle of the upgrade and render the KL88 a useless brick?

Btw, the power cable/USB unplug stuff is not very nice .. it constantly puts mechanical abuse to either the KL88s port or my computers. Unless you use an extension cable or some HUB or so.

Hi voon,

You can use a 9v power supply to power up your KL88.
No problem to switch off then on with both usb and PSU.
We ask users to set PSU first because of the LCD brightness. The firmware of the KL88 check if you're powered by USB or by PSU and set the LCD brightness after this check. The only problem you might encounter doing so is to have a dimmed LCD during firmware update.

@ben

Ah, thanks, good to know! I thought it was related to voltage. Atm, it seems to work nicely with my 6V/0.6A PSU .. not too bright etc.
