Optimal Wiring pinout from individual outputs?
« on: October 19, 2019, 07:08:17 pm »
Hi!

Last week, I took the leap and got myself a Drumbrute :) I loaned it from a shop for a weekend, and to test the individual outputs, I just purchased a stack of really cheap stereo miniplug-miniplug -wires and stereo 3.5mm to 6.3mm converters, patched it up to my mixer. Loved the sound, so now it is mine :)

Only issue is that there is quite amount of hiss in individual channels. Pretty sure it's the cheap wires. I am now in process of soldering proper cables.

Is there an official guide on how to connect the cables in optimal manner?
Is the Unbalanced TS to Balanced TRS (Guide "14" in https://www.rane.com/note110.html ) the best possible way?

Hi!

Answering my own question:

"Is the Unbalanced TS to Balanced TRS (Guide "14" in https://www.rane.com/note110.html ) the best possible way?"

Urr, no.

There is lots of Ground Hum coming from the power adapter. According to "14," sleeve in DrumBrute (Device ground, that's where the Ground Hum is) connects to ring in Yamaha N12 - thus summing the Ground Hum into real signal. The outcome was completely unlistenable.

The power adapter seems to be pretty noisy, it is causing some ultra-low-frequency disturbance even if it is attached to electric junction box, but NOT to Drumbrute. I cannot hear it, but I can see the Master VU-meter of my N12 to jump up and down.

So I connected the Ring and Sleeve together at N12 side, bit like in http://www.majorcom.fr/files/pmedia/public/r415_9_image_xlr_vers_tps_thumbnail.png (lower version).

Now playback is very nice, no hum, nothing :)
