Send midi notes from some instruments only?

Is it possible to transmit midi notes only from some of the instruments (e.g. kick) and not the others? I have tried to switch instruments "off" using the drum map in the editor, but each instrument has a midi note value 0-127 and so always sends a note. My hope is to layer the kick with a sample on another machine.
