Possible to set the lights of the buttons off?
« on: April 23, 2018, 10:51:22 am »
In the evening and night the Keystep is connected to my MBP. The lights from the transport buttons and there transpose are lighting (or flashing). Is it possible to set this off with removing the USB cable?

No, there isn't. I have my Keystep (and BSP and a couple of other USB-power-only devices) plugged into a USB power board that has an on/off switch and I switch that off when I finish a session.

Wow, I'm so disappointed  :'(
I just got mine in after searching for the new perfect midi controler and this one has it all.
But just having it on and playing it has me distracted and irritated within a minute.
There's like a visual alarm bell going off constantly when playing in a lower (or higher) octave, ridiculous.
It looks like this one will be returned and the search goes on.

Wow, you sold it because of the flashing octave indicator?  Why not just put a sticker over it?  I'm more than happy to put up with being hit in the eye by a bright blue led on one of my pieces even though it's not much less intense than a laser due to it being a beasty piece of kit  I put the Keystep into that category also; a beasty piece of kit.  I was in an instrument store the other day while a lady was having a Keystep demo'd to her.  I couldn't help but jump in and add my 2 cents on "my main keyboard and chord looper!"

I think its great for Arturia that they have such a great fan of their products but I'm not stickering my brand new products.
I also understand that in a setup with a lot of analogue gear (or if you're under fluorescent light), flickering leds probably won't be as annoying but in a dimly lit studio it's like having a disco light in the corner of your eye.
Also I didn't have to sell it, I just got my money back ;)

Oh, I don't talk much about that which I am not to impressed with.  I don't say much at all about the Minibrute and mine isn't suffering from any of the physical issues with keys and switches....

I understand you not wanting to goop up the button with sticker glue, but by the same token, you won't ever take the sticker off, so if it's white you won't notice it there after a little bit.  I guess I'm not so precious about things like that.  I'd probably just black it out with permanent marker if it was annoying me and bypass the sticker.

Oh well, I suggest you don't buy a Beatstep Pro if flashing lights are an issue, though they all stop flashing once stop is hit (but play will flash while paused):
That's in a room with the light off under a loft bed.  The step buttons all flash as the cursor passes them and in drum mode the pads flash relative top which pad is being triggered.  Oh yeah, there are five Waldorf products in that shot.

Yes I totally agree! This is the reason why I don't happily recommend the Keystep. This is distracting when you have metronome lights to concentrate on and then there is this super bright light blinking in a totally different speed.

Please make it an option in the software to turn the very bright blinking of. It is very distracting because it is not in sync with the music. The blinking does not really help in any way. A steady light would be well enough. Octaves are easily recognizable by ear any way.

If you can implement this in the computer control center as an option, the users can them selves decide if they want the flashing or not. Everyone would be happy!

Thanks!

Agreed on all points. The light brightness is unnecessary, and the flashing octave-shift lights are non-musical.

I have written directly to Arturia to suggest a firmware update that would allow users to press a couple of buttons to turn off the lights, dim the lights, and/or stop them from flashing.

I think that your idea of having these types of options in a computer control centre is good. But, I believe we also need the same options right on the keyboard for those times when we're away from the DAW.

Hi
i agree too
i love the keystep, but the incessant blinking is infuriating. please allow the user to make the light constant or turn it off completely in the mcc.
