Sending pattern changes from Ableton
« on: July 20, 2017, 09:26:59 am »
Is it possible to send pattern changes from Ableton to the BSP using the Bank/Sub/Pgm in clips? If it is, are there any tutorial videos/detailed explanations anywhere on how to do it??

Thanks  ;D

Hi Itslovelybythesea,
Yes it is possible.
  • Bank 1 to 16 (Bank MSB) will change BSP projects
  • Sub (Bank LSB) is useless for BSP
  • Pgm 1 to 16 will change patterns 1 to 16 on BSP
The MIDI clip channel outputs in Ableton Live must correspond with those set in BSP
  • User channel for Projects (Bank)
  • SEQ1 or SEQ2 or DRUM channel for patterns (Pgm)

Check the respective input channels on BSP using SHIFT + CHAN combination

Best,
Y.

You're a superstar! Thankyou  ;D

Thanks to your help I've managed to get it working by creating a seperate MIDI track to send the pattern changes to the BSP as when I add an instrument to a MIDI track Ableton doesn't allow 'MIDI to' as well as 'MIDI from'. Apologies if this seems obvious - I'm a bit of a newbie!! This seems to be confusing the BSP as now it seems to be struggling to match the pattern changes correctly across all 3 sequencers. It recognises some, some of the time, though?? I'd also like to set it up so that each sequencer has a blank pattern so, for example, the drum pattern runs for 8 bars, then sequencer 1 starts playing for a further 8 bars then sequencer 2 starts. The only way I've got this working is to leave pattern 1 on the sequencers as an empty pattern. Could this be the source of my confusionor am I trying to achieve more than the software/hardware is capable of?

You're welcome.  ;)

It should recognize it every time. Keep in mind that those MIDI messages will be interpreted the same way as if you were pushing the buttons manually yourself. So, if you have "Wait to Load Pattern" On or "Wait to load Project" On, it will delay the change at the end of Pattern or Project (Drum Pattern is the Master for project change).

If I understand well, I would say:
Yes you need to use empty patterns for that purpose.

Hope this help,
Y.
