CV for OSC1 pitch - compatibility question
« on: January 21, 2017, 12:13:30 pm »
Hi all,

I would like to "add" some VCOs to the AUDIO IN of the MB.
I'm planning to buy an external VCO module (many choices on the market)
just to start, I found a MFB OSC03 (triple VCO).

now, first of all I found an obstacle:
MB specifications speak of (by the manual) a CV out ofr VCO1 pitch scaled 1v/oct (perfect) with range 0-10V.
the triple VCO by MFB (by the manual) speak of 1v/oct (perfect) but 0-5V range accepting.

does it mean that the triple VCO by MFB is not compatible with my idea?

my idea is the one to connect MB VCO1 CV pitch OUT in the CV IN of the triple MFB VCO to be piloted.
then, the OUT of the triple OSC by MFB in the AUDIO IN of the MB.

in this way I think I have added one VCO to the MB synthesis engine.

my questions, my fellows are:
1) is the difference (MB=0-10V - MFB triple OSC = 0-5v) preventing me to apply my idea?
2) if they are compatible, do my idea work in your opinion?

thanks for answers :)

Yes your idea can be apply.
The MFB has a 5 octaves range, so if you apply a 6V to his V/oct it will be the same as a 5 V. So you don't have to go further than 5V if you want it to function correctly.

You have one more VCO, but not another voice of polyphony.

I do that all the time with my synths and module and it's working perfectly.
