Nord Drum 2 Midi Problems
« on: March 13, 2016, 10:44:24 pm »
Hello again everyone. Back with another midi problem...

I'm using my BSP to control a Waldorf Blofeld on Seq. 1, a JU-06 on Seq. 2, and my Nord Drum 2 on the drum sequencer. Everything works great and plays as should except for when i play on Seq. 1 or 2. Whenever a note is played, it triggers a drum sound from the ND2 as well as the note from whatever synth im trying to play from. The drum sound is the same single sound for all pads on each sequencer, but will go up and down in scale with each note pressed.

I have the drum channels set to 10 on the BSP and ND2. Right now i have the MIDI send/receive for the drums set to 'General Midi' (39, 37, 51, 62, 60, 66) but have tried multiple different combinations to no avail.

Thanks for any help! Let me know if i need to clarify anything.

  • You can twist perceptions. Reality won't budge.

Mystery to me, have a few comments which may have use:

1. The metronome puts out a midi note, it does not change note number however.
2. The "controller" mode on BSP outputs midi notes, and does change note numbers for each pad
3. Are there any MIDI thru's between the WB  and JU6 to the ND2?
4. I believe if you look at midi channels via MIdi control centre there is the option for a different send and receive channel on one of the sequencers, perhaps seq 3, or is it the controller mode, I forget.
5. In my experience most ghost sounds (and timing issues) in my midi rig at least were caused by midi being received and almost simultaneously retransmitted to another sound producing piece of hardware. Is there a slight lag between the initial sounds and the ghost sound? if so the midi note is being received and being bounced back somewhere in the system where a device is set to receive & send (or pass through) when it should only be set to receive.

Hi!
I think you should check if you're using the 'individual' MIDI channels on the ND2..
You can indeed set a general MIDI channel, but also an individual MIDI channel for each of the 6 channels (drum sounds) of the ND2. With the individual MIDI channels you can play melodies on the ND2, and control all parameters with CCs for each sound individually. If you don't need this functionality, better not use it.

Press [shift]+[MIDI] until you see [Ch.xx] (where xx is a value between 1-16 or OF)
Then for each of the 6 channels, switch this off by rotating the knob until you see [Ch.OF]

Cheers,
Albert
