Cannot change instrument type on spark controller?

Hi, when modifying what a pad triggers on the spark (turning the jog wheel), it always stays in the category originally assigned by the preset. e.g. kicks.

Even if in the software edit page i change the category to e.g. pads, and load a pad using the software, as soon as i turn and click the jog wheel, it changes back to kicks!

Have I missed something in the manual, or is this a bug? (or do i simply need to try to do this again?)
Am hopeful i was just doing this wrong?

There is a useful shortcut for that.
Press Select + Click on the wheel, you will be able to choose among Analog, Sample, Physical Model.
Press Select + Click on the wheel another time you will be able to choose among all the drum type.
