Questions about Analog Contoller experience before buying

I was hoping somebody could help me with some questions before i buy one of these controllers

I already own Analog Factory - and love it except for the usb dongle

my question is - if i buy the upgrade (just the controller)

1. can i use my existing copy of analog factory software
2. when you have the midi controller plugged in through USB do you still have to use the usb dongle -

and when you have the MIDI controller plugged in through a midi port do you need to use the USB dongle still?  
 
i ask this because it doesn't make sense that analog factory would require you to use up 2 usb ports for one program especially for those of use who use laptops for performing and recording and only have 2 usb ports

anyway, i hope someone has the answer for me, because the people at guitar center are a little slow and don't know the answers.

if you have the right answer i'll buy one tonight!

I already own Analog Factory - and love it except for the usb dongle

My license is transferred to the laptop, I use AF without the dongle.  Make sure you have a full image of your hard drive in case it crashes
