Simple Midi Control Issue
« on: February 14, 2014, 11:38:16 am »
Hello.

Here is the issue. I am trying to use the Sparkle controller to play Midi notes in my program (Ableton Live Lite 9.1). I am able to do so in Midi mode. The problem is that although the settings (in the Midi control center) are the same on all of the pads, pads 1 and 5-8 do not turn on and off as triggers, as do pads 2-4; instead, they are set to either on or off, in the way that they would be if used in mute or solo mode on the sparkle (that is, they stay on). They are not "triggered", they are "selected", and thus the notes I am trying to play play continuously. Please let me know if you have any suggestions for how to fix this.

Thanks.

Yes. The surprising thing is that all of the pads have the same configuration, except for the note. Yet, the pads react different, in the way I mentioned. So I am not sure why that is or how to change it.

Can you usea midi monitor such a midi ox, and try to find if there is a difference between the messages sent for the different pads

I don't know what any of it means, but here is the information that I received after syncing in MCC with check midi console selected (actually, the list was too long to post, but here are the first twenty or so lines. What should I be looking for?)

I don't know why, but as I clicked around MMC, I was able to get the pads to show up distinguished according to gate/toggle, whereas previously although they were all set to one setting, some were acting as gate, others as toggle. I don't know exactly what I did to get it right, but I think I have managed to figure it out in practice. Thanks for the encouragement. Midi is a little intimidating at first, "under the hood".
